Give me such deadness to the world, such love to the Saviour, such attachment to his house, such devotedness to his service, as proves me a subject to his salvation.
May every part of my character and conduct make a serious and amiable impression on others, and impel them to ask the way to the master.
Let no incident of life, pleasing or painful, injure the prosperity of my soul, but rather increase it. Send me thy help, for thine appointments are nor meant to make me independent of thee, and the best means will be vain without super-added blessings.

Toll roads and too much cookie dough... What are things that make me ill?
Turnpike = Tollroad
Tollroad = Pay Money!
I've driven by myself on 8 hour road trips. I've driven through Dallas, Houston, Austin, Boston, and Philadelphia. I know how to check the oil in my car. If I needed to, I could change my own tire. However, I can't seem to remember that a turnpike means you pay money!
I won't bore you with another tale of me getting stuck on a turnpike with no money. Yes, it's happened more than once.
I just ate half my body weight in cookie dough. I think I'm gonna ralph. sick.

Bizness
You can love the game, but the game doesn't love anybody....
Someone said that once, not me, and I'm probably completely misquoting, but you get the gist. What happened last night during the Superbowl? No idea. And that's probably the same question that's running through the minds of the Patriots right now. Either that or "What is the air speed of an unladen swallow?"
If you'll glance to your right, you'll notice that I have a new link. It's my parents web page(Yes, the Drs. Brown have their very own web domain!) and it has all their information about their move to Africa, and their progress as they raise prayer and financial support. If you think of it, please pray for my parents, that God would continue to bring in the support they need, and that they would continue to turn to God, the supplier of all our needs, to meet their financial and prayer needs.
(note: Sometimes I preface telling someone I will pray for them with "If I think of it" because honestly, I don't always remember, and I don't want to lie to them, telling them I will pray, when honestly, my self-centeredness my win out and I'll only think of my own prayer needs.)
Also, go to this link: www.igracemusic.com then click on "music" , then click on "wake they slumbering children" and listen to "Oh Help My Unbelief" clip. It's a song that we've been singing at church and it is really, really good. In fact, all the Indelible Grace CDs are good if you're not familiar with them.
Okay, that's all. the sunset isn't until 5pm these days, and let me tell you: that's pretty awesome compared to 4:30 pm a month ago...

The Worst Christmas Party Ever, and helpful advice on what to wear to a Christmas party when its 19 degrees outside and you're too cheap to take a cab
I actually wanted to add more to that title, but apparently I have a limited number of characters.
I'm going to try and keep this story concise and to the point, but it may require multiple posts if I really get going.
Tonight was our Christmas party for the community group that I attend. (Community groups are like our church's version of a "Bible study" but instead of being grouped together because of age or subject, we're grouped more based on location) Currently in Boston it's pretty cold, and due to our recent snowstorm (10 inches) and an impending storm of snow/rain tonight, I didn't want to shovel my car out or potentially lose the parking spot. So I looked up the directions from my house to the host's house in nearby Brookline, via the subway. MBTA said it was a 7-minute walk from the nearest T-stop to the party location. "not too bad" I thought to myself.
Fast forward to 6:30pm, I'm now 30 minutes late to the party due to problems with our heater, and due to my lateness, I didn't have time to print off, or write down the directions. So I call the ONE person who's a part of my CG whose number I have. She's just now arriving and she tells me how to get there via walking from the T. They say a picture says a thousand words, so instead of telling you how I got lost and ended up WALKING IN THE 20-DEGREE COLD IN A SKIRT AND BOOTS WITH A HAT THAT DOESN'T COVER MY EARS, I'll show you exhibits A and B.
This is the route I should have gone to get to the party to keep my legs and ears from freezing off.
This is the actual route I took because I was lost and almost froze to death
It's my own fault really, but it still sucks!!
So, I finally get to the party, not surprisingly to those who know me well, on the verge of tears. But I pull it together because I'm glad to be socializing with friends. So, I'm thawing and having a good time with the people there. Then, it's time for the "yankee swap" Note: I had never heard of a "yankee swap" before. Someone told me it was similar to "White Elephant" (which I always played where you bring a gag gift or a used gift from home). So I asked several people in my CG what were the terms of the aforementioned "Yankee Swap" I was informed that you bring a gift that is $10 to $20 in value. Cool, I thought.... I'll get a good gift in return. So, being the giving person I am (insert eye roll here if you choose) I went to Best Buy and bought a $15 gift card. We begin the gift swap, I'm right in the middle (#14). I open a gift: it's a $5 gift card to STarbucks and a candy bar. So I swap my gift with one that had already been opened: A 5-disc Sufjans Stevens Christmas Album. Sufjans is not my favorite artist ever, but I was definitely excited about getting his album. I had the album in my hand for a total of 2 minutes before it was stolen from me and I was left with my gift that I would ultimately take home as my "Yankee Swap" gift: 5 toothbrushes of various brands and a sample size of Crest pro-health toothpaste. (Long pause as I continue to dwell on the suckiness of it all). Call me Bitter and Ungrateful (which I can be), BUT I BOUGHT A 15 DOLLAR GIFT CARD TO BEST BUY AND ALL I CAME HOME WITH WAS 1-FREAKIN' TOOTHBRUSH AND A SAMPLE SIZE OF TOOTHPASTE!!! (i gave the other 4 brushes away since, currently, i only have 1 set of teeth)
What a bum deal. That's all i have to say about that.
I miss Chivalry. I miss polite cowboys. I never thought I'd say that.
That's it.
I'm off to brush my teeth,

Kleenex Brand Love
I've made it six weeks without getting sick. Lots of things can happen in 6 weeks: getting projectile vomited on, sneezed on, drooled on, coughed on.... Pretty much I've become a human Kleenex. I believe my immune system has finally raised the proverbial white flag. The barricade has been battered for over a month and it has finally come down. You win, germs o'the little ones. It's probably worth it though. I have seen some pretty cute kids. And even though I have not changed my mind about working with children, I think I'll be a better person for it.
In almost exactly 3 months I will be graduating from PT School. That means that in exactly 4.5 months I'll be taking the hardest test I've ever encountered. And in 5 months I will be moving. Where? I have no idea. I'm trying to figure that out. But I heard an interesting commentary the other day about the evils of having "Destination Disease": Always being concerned with where you are going, and giving no second thought to the journey. i.e. I'll be happier when I'm married, or graduated, or as soon as I retire, life will be great... That sort of thing. It was good to hear, because I realized that maybe where I end up and with who isn't as important as Glorifying God in the process, and learning to rely on Him alone for the road map. So, in exactly 6 months, my life will be a lot different, but that doesn't really matter, because I've got a life to live today.
{PS: feel free to remind me of this post during those small periods where I may find myself momentarily stressing over where to go next!}

That will go over like a pink turtleneck.....
Christmas came and went, and not without a few tears. If Christmas successes could be measured by tears, our family had the BEST Christmas ever! I'll give you the short version: My brother got a new computer as a Christmas/Birthday/Graduation gift, my sister got a very expensive, fancy lamp as well as a pink turtleneck. Apparently, turtlenecks are still made...and in very nice "bubble gum" shades. So, my sister started "laughing" which turned to crying, then my mom started crying because my sister was crying, then I started crying because my mom was crying and finally my oldest sister joined in, because really, when your mom and two sisters are crying you should be too. And joy and merriment was felt by all. :) oh, and the mustard-colored clothing item? My mom totally faked me out!! She made it up!! That Mrs. Dr. Brown is trick-y. Like a pokimon.
I have exactly one week and a day to be a bum. No work, no school, no responsibilities, no nothing! I'll probably be bored by Tuesday. It's hard to not do anything when you're so used to doing something.
I was watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" the other day and "According to Jim" (which I think is a very annoying show and I'm still not sure why I watched it) anyways, I realized these shows are totally ridiculous and COMPLETELY unbelievable. These people do things to their spouses and display total mistrust for the other. In the real world, when people argue and yell that much it would be grounds for marriage demolition. Why do we watch crap like that? If I get married, I don't want to be yelling at my husband all the time and not telling him about our finances just so he won't get upset. That's ridiculous. Maybe I'll box up the tv. Extreme? Yes! Necessary? sometimes. My mom boxed up our tv for a month when i was in the 4th grade. She's got guts that's for sure...
[Disclaimer: I love old people, I think they're usually pretty sweet.] However, I knew this already, but I'll just reiterate the point: a lot of old people share information that they shouldn't. EVER. I had two old ladies at work try to tell me about sex. old people sex. REallY? In a place of business? Is that really necessary? I mean, I'll talk about anything, your grandkids, your spoiled dog, your orthopedic shoes that you got for half-off in BOTH black and white colors, but sex? I could definitely live my whole life without having to hear about it from someone my grandmother's age. Keep it to yo' self granny!

Staying up late ain't that hard to do....
It's 3:30 am and I'm still up, I know! It's late! I kind of like it, but what I like even better is the fact that I can sleep as late as I want!!! I love sleep. Sleep is T-errific. Thank you Lord for Sleep!
I just bought "Hitch" and the new Tony Bennet "Duets" cd, I highly recommend it. Buy it at Target because you get 4 bonus tracks. Also, I highly dislike the Dixie Chicks for hating on Lubbock, while they're in Canada, but I will give them credit that they did a really good job on their duet. But it's not just the Dixie Chicks on there, it's also: Sting, Bono, James Taylor, Michael Buble, STevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra etc.... I dig it.
Tomorrow is the Homecoming Game for Tech and even though I never left (so not so much "homecoming") I'm going to the game. And I'm really excited to see Missouri end their winning streak. ("I will not eat these words, I will not eat these words....")
So, beautiful, appreciated, God-given sleep, here I come!

A Post for my Love
Well, I just typed this really long post about a guy, German books, and the HSC library. They have a connection, I promise. Well, just as I was typing the last words of the post, my computer froze up and I lost it all!!! AAARRRGGG! Does that mean that God doesn't want me to tell that story? Alas, I have temporarily moved on to a new subject. One that is very near and dear to my heart:

Anderson Cooper
Anderson and I go waaaaayyy back. When I was in 8th grade, our school had us watch "Channel One" news. We watched it for a couple of years. And during those couple of years there was a young, tenacious, and cute reporter named Anderson Cooper. For years, I never saw him. He moved on, I graduated high school, and we were separated by thousands of miles. And then I saw him again. Now a successful, gray-haired, and HANDSOME journalist. *sigh* I'm smitten. Forget the fifteen-year age gap, years mean nothing when you're talking about love. I saw him on Oprah the other day and I about jumped into the tv to tell her to keep her hands off of him! Seriously, I never realized Oprah was so touchy-feely. Anyways, I have been trying to figure out how to meet him. Barring any hurricanes in Lubbock and an expose' on Bobby Knight, I don't think Anderson will be traveling to Lubbock any time soon. Do you think he loves God? hmmm we can work on that. Anyways, Anderson Cooper, if at any time you run across this blog, and read this mushy confession of love, please come to Lubbock, Texas. Really, it grows on you.
much love, eb
