You're a grand old flag, you're a high flying flag and forever in peace may you wave.
You're the anthem of the land I love, the home of the free and the brave.
Every heart beats true to the red, white, and blue where there's never a boast or a brag.
Should all acquaintance be forgot keep your eye on the grand old flag.
This is my country, land of my birth.
This is my country, grandest on earth.
I pledge thee my allegiance, America, the bold.
For this is my country, to have and to hold.
Just like a sleeping giant, sprawling in the sun. In one big hand the Rio Grande, in the other Galveston. My Ma was born in Dallas, Father in Fort Worth. You can bet your boots I got my roots in the good 'ole Texas earth. For this land is Texas, Lone Star State of Texas, this is the giant land I love!
(my mom used to sing this one to me)
The Yellow Rose of Texas, is the only girl for me. Her eyes are big as diamonds, they sparkle like the sea.
You can talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosa Lee, but the Yellow rose of Texas, is the only girl for me.
(choreography and hand signs for each song available on request and not available to those who only want to make fun of Girl's State! {You know who you are})

Oh, my goodness, does this bring memories of watching from the balcony with all the other parents of ALL you 200-300 girls sing all those songs. It was more patriotic than watching the 4th of July fireworks at the U.S Coast Guard Academy in 1981!! Brings tears to my blue eyes. And wonderful memories of rocking you (and your siblings) and singing! You are a beautiful Yellow Rose born in CT!!! Note: I did not sing Yellow Rose to Graham, instead it was Two Eyes that Shine so bright , two arms that hold me tight, this little boy of mine...dadadada/ No one will ever know how much your coming has meant, to me you're everything, something Heaven has sent/ You climb upon my knee, dada dadada, this little boy of mine, dadadada...sorry, just had to 'sing'. Could have been sung to Em, but I didn't learn it until GWB was born!! You wonderful Yellow Rose, Em!!!
A simple answer to your question on my blog is YES!!!!. The risk??? I do not see it as a risk because regardless of what you do in your walk that you will "risk" everything. Marriage is a challenge but it can and should be a great blessing. I loved being married. You just have to realize like with everything including friendships and family relationships that there is change, pain, anger, frustration, and well, see your brother's hippo problem. :-) You have to be committed to do God's will in your life and understand that not all people in your life will follow.
Former Girls State Citizen here, 1990! I found your blog when I was trying to remember the lyrics to "Giant" today, and sadly I have lost my songbook and hoped Google could help me. I never did buy the cassette tape. Thanks for reminding me of them. (And tell your mom that there are 500+ girls singing on Capitol Day! It is truly a sight to behold.)
